What is Kratom?
Kratom, scientifically known as Mitragyna speciosa, is a tropical tree native to Southeast Asia, admired for its large, elliptical leaves that contain psychoactive alkaloids such as mitragynine and 7-hydroxymitragynine, which can produce both calming and energizing effects.
Historically, Kratom has been used as a mild intoxicant, pain reliever, sedative, and even as an opium substitute.
Today, it is typically dried and processed into powder, appreciated for its ability to offer stimulating or calming effects depending on the dosage.
Additionally, Kratom is consumed in various forms, including chewing, smoking, and brewing as tea, and it is often used to manage pain, anxiety, depression, and opioid withdrawal symptoms.

The effects of different kratom strains, often categorized by vein color — red, green, and white — are largely based on anecdotal reports and marketing claims rather than scientifically proven differences in alkaloid content (Source).
Although some users report distinct effects for each strain, such as red strains being more soothing, green strains calming and pain-reducing, and white strains energizing, studies have not found significant differences in the alkaloid profiles of these strains that would account for these effects.
The perceived variability in effects might be influenced by minor alkaloids, terpenes, but are most likely to be placebo effects driven by user expectations and marketing narratives.
